An exceptional exhibition, titled ‘The Edible Lab: Food, Culture & Design’, takes visitors on a flavourful and intricate journey with the works of 13 students at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar). Curated by honours students Fae Siddiqui and Selma Fejzulla and including students: Selma Fejzullaj, Sharifa al-Attiayah, Al Maha al-Muftah, Amna al-Humaidi, Shouq al-Kuwari, Ohoud al-Saygh Black, Noof al-Atteya, Almaha al-Mahmoud, Alanood al-thani, Adila Hayati, Dalal Johar, Minseo Kim, and Fae Siddiqui. Led by designer and VCUarts Qatar Graphic Design chair Astrid Kensinger, the exhibition formed part of the Liwan Open Day and Exhibition.
The Edible Lab is serving as an experimental classroom space, where students are looking for words and stories related to specific foods. We have connected with Embrace Doha’s Shaima Serif, and are researching and visualizing language and image, written history and ICH to create works that capture the expanding landscape of food in Qatari/local kitchens.
