nanoabaya
By Nanotechnology and Textile Lab
2022Combining arts and science, VCUarts Qatar fashion design student Noor Rashid Butt's designed an abaya using fabric that has been treated using nanotechnology. This “nanoabaya” absorbs vitamin D - rich light and blocks the sun‘s harmful rays in extreme summer climates, and has thermal insulating properties.
This design is part of a wider project, which aims to develop functional textiles with thermal, anti-bacterial, UV protection, self-cleaning, or water-repellent properties, a project overseen by Dr. Khaled Saoud, physics professor, and Christopher Fink, chair of fashion design at VCUarts Qatar.
