“Gorge,” and “gorgeous,” are related but different words, from related but different languages.

The French word “Gorge,” (or, in Italian, “gorgiera”) identifies the type of pleated collar worn by aristocrats in the 16th- and 17th-centuries. In English, of course, gorgeous means beautiful.
