Superreflex

The Superreflex Research Lab investigates the hybrid and unstable forms that emerge at the intersection of the physical and digital worlds. We explore the liminal spaces where individuals and communities increasingly live and create, between the real and the simulated.

Inspired by the mathematical idea of super-reflexivity, or the ability of certain systems to maintain stability and self-awareness even under intense transformation, the lab examines how physical phenomena such as artifacts, motion, images, performances, and sounds shift, distort, and find new coherence as they move between material and virtual states, and back again.

Through artistic practice, interactive media, and film production, Superreflex critically engages with technology’s growing influence on contemporary experience. The lab’s work questions the increasingly porous boundaries between reality and simulation in art and immersive media, while probing how these hybrid realities shape human perception and cultural expression.

In Qatar’s dynamic, technology-driven society, where digital innovation meets rich creative traditions, the lab’s research is especially timely. We address the hybrid realities of global connectivity, virtual interaction, and mediated cultural exchange, aiming to reimagine digital life and strengthen local capacity in emerging media technologies.

Our activities combine creative experimentation with critical inquiry, producing artworks, interactive installations, films, and immersive experiences that illuminate the evolving relationship between the physical and the digital.
