LIT/ART LAB
The boundaries of art and literature have always been fluid. The dynamics of intermedial writing and mixed media work unfold at the intersection of diverse artistic and academic domains. This interdisciplinary sphere is fertile ground for the evolution of innovative, creative expressions and for exploring the liminal spaces between text, image, and media. Intermedial writing and mixed media work represent a fusion of diverse artistic mediums where the written word intersects with visual and digital art. LIT/ART Lab will foster the creation and study of intermedial writing and mixed media work.
Intermedia work, particularly collage, is a potent emblem of intermedial dialog and a potent methodology for investigating complex intersections of gender, representation, and aesthetics. In addition to creating intermedial works, the lab will research intermedial work as a form of feminist expression. Intermedial work provides a powerful lens to examine and challenge traditional notions of gender, identity, and power. The medium, inherently subversive in its ability to deconstruct and reconstruct imagery, aligns itself with feminist methodologies of critique and analysis
An integral component of this lab will be the creation of a public archive of vintage vernacular images of BIPOC. This archive can aid in rectifying historical erasures and misrepresentations, providing a more authentic visual lexicon from which artists, scholars, and writers can engage in meaningful dialogues about the past and its influence on contemporary social dynamics. The LIT/ART Lab, through its collection, cataloging, and digitization of a wide range of images and ephemera, aims to foster a sense of engagement and involvement in its audience, serving as a resource for further creative work, academic inquiry, and public engagement.
